Not too long ago, it has been revealed that after the implementation of the upcoming Fortnite Update v11.20, players will be able to choose to use Microsoft DirectX 12 in Fortnite if they choose to do so. This information has been revealed by Epic in one of their blog posts and it having this option will allow players to take advantage of the DirectX 12 feature if they have more modern graphic cards and will probably get better performance out of the game.
Fortnite currently requires players to have a graphics card that supports DirectX 11 but having the option to choose will definitely be an improvement overall. Epic has stated that: “DX12 delivers better CPU performance and allows for the distribution of rendering jobs across multiple cores.”
They have furthered teased by saying: “In the future, we plan on adding features to Fortnite that are made possible by DX12.”
